Some of Portland’s most vibrant theater productions are coming out of a little building on Northeast Prescott. Five years ago, Portland Playhouse founders Brian and Nikki Weaver found a home for their fledgling theater in a King neighborhood church. Since then, they’ve developed a reputation as a theater that’s grounded in its community and willing to take on challenging, contemporary works.

“Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” at Portland Playhouse

To kick off its fifth season, Portland Playhouse is presenting their first musical, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. It’s an irreverent, rock-musical take on our seventh president. Oregon Art Beat visited rehearsals for the production earlier this year for an upcoming story about the company. Watch a preview with an introduction from director Brian Weaver.

Watch the full story on Portland Playhouse November 1st at 8 p.m. on Oregon Art Beat.
