Jonnel Covault’s prints flow with the urgency of water on the move. Her work is largely inspired by the outdoors, and one of her favorite subjects is the Willamette River.

“I’m really chronicling places that I love,” says the Portland-based artist.

Since 1995, Covault has documented the iconic river through her linocut prints, exploring the Willamette’s bridges, tree-lined banks and rushing water.

“I do have a reverence for the natural environment,” notes Covault, who grew up near the San Francisco Bay and spent time fishing in Alaska before moving to Portland.
