Governor Roberts On Her Journey ‘Up the Capitol Steps’
Former Governor Barbara Roberts will be at the Oregon Historical Society on Sunday, February 19 to talk about her recent book, Up the Capitol Steps: A Woman's March to the Governorship, with OHS Executive Director Kerry Tymchuk.
The memoir chronicles Roberts' personal and political experiences as Oregon's first female governor in the early 1990s. She'll share stories of her groundbreaking life and career, read excerpts from the book and sign copies after the event.
Roberts sat down recently with Oregon Experience to talk about the centennial of Oregon women winning the vote. Oregon Experience is currently producing a half-hour documentary to coincide with the centennial in the fall.
In this excerpt from the interview, Roberts discusses the honor of serving in the state's highest offices and why she decided to write her autobiography.
