Desmond Spann, aka DLux the Light, is a spoken word poet, a positive emcee and hip hop artist, and an educator who works to help kids express themselves through language. His work blends his love of words with his training as a musican. Producer Katrina Sarson interviewed Spann for a story on Oregon Art Beat and got a glimpse into his creative process as well as the multitude of ways he has found to express himself through words.

For his spoken word poetry, Spann writes pieces that are created to be performed in front of an audience. Spoken word poetry puts less emphasis on rhythm and rhyming than rap but still has a musical quality expressed through the performance and the flow of the language.
