Eighth Northwest Indian Storytelling Festival
Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA)
5135 NE Columbia Blvd
This year's festival features some of the Northwest best-known storytellers, including Roger Fernandes (Lower Elwah S'Klallam), who captivates with vivid and colorful tales; Elaine Grinnell (Jamestown S'Klallam), whose sense of humor is a crowd-pleaser; Darlene Foster (Warm Springs/Wasco), who shares stories with cultural artifacts and traditional first foods; and Toby Joseph (Apache/Ute), whose stories touch the heart. Tribal drumming and singing, with opening prayer and commentary by treasured native elders, are integral to the events. A silent auction will benefit the Northwest Indian Storytellers Association.
