Five of Oregon’s most accomplished oil painters will be celebrated at a prestigious gallery exhibition including Samir Khurshid, an Iraqi refugee who, in his required military service in Iraq, painted hundreds of portraits of Saddam Hussein. Khurshid spent five years in a refugee camp after fleeing Iraq. He is now living in Portland and is one of five recipients of the Calligram Falcon Fellowship - Oregon's largest combined visual arts fellowship. His work, along with that of the other recipients, will be featured in a one-time exhibition on January 12. The Calligram Falcon Fellowship is a partnership between The Calligram Foundation and the Falcon Art Community.
