The Sketchbook Project Summer Tour
800 E Burnside St
July 19-21, 2013
The Sketchbook Project Summer Tour arrives in Portland headed by husband and wife duo, Steven and Sara Peterman, bringing their Mobile Library which features thousands of handmade artists' books and stories from around the globe.
The Sketchbook Project is a global, crowd-sourced art project and interactive, traveling exhibition of handmade books. Since 2006, the Sketchbook Project has encouraged participants from all walks of life to fill the pages of a blank sketchbook. The results are cataloged in the Brooklyn Art Library and shared with the public in venues around the world. This collection currently includes more than 26,000 sketchbooks representing nearly 8,000 cities from 135 countries worldwide -- a community made up of over 75,000 people. Their Mobile Library — a custom-built bookmobile — along with a selection of 4,500 sketchbooks from the permanent collection will be on tour this summer.
Participants from all walks of life are invited to fill the pages of a blank sketchbook and send it back for inclusion in an ever-growing library of inspiration. Anyone, from anywhere in the world, can participate in the project. This experience will be free and open to the public.
