Gretchen is a back-up announcer at OPB. She began her radio career almost 20 years ago as a volunteer announcer at KZAZ in Bellingham, Washington.
She landed the Morning Edition host spot there and became the station’s one-woman newsroom. Seeking more experience (and co-workers!) she moved to Minnesota to report for MPR’s Central Minnesota bureau. She moved to Portland in 1998 and soon after began working as an announcer and reporter at OPB. Gretchen has won numerous awards for her feature work. In 2002 she won 1st Place from the Society for Professional Journalists (NW) for ‘The Family Series’, about life post 9/11. When she’s not at OPB, Gretchen can be found at home with her daughter, pretending to be superheroes, or discussing abstract art.
