The National Teacher Training Institute (NTTI) is the centerpiece
of a year-long professional development program which arms teachers
with the skills they need to effectively incorporate technology
into their teaching.
NTTI begins with the selection of master teachers to participate
in intensive teacher training designed for K-12 educators in Oregon
and Southwest Washington. Master teachers culminate their training
by sharing their learning experiences with colleagues at yearly
Institutes held in participating Education Service Districts. The
Institutes follow standards from such institutions as the U.S. Department
of Education, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the
National Science Teachers Association, the National Council of Teachers
of English and the National Center for History in the Schools, demonstrating
a variety of technology-based, hands-on learning experiences.
The training includes several modeled lessons that cover how to
enhance an interdisciplinary lesson by using instructional videos
and the Internet in classroom instruction, as well as how to design
media-rich lessons. Participants learn to use video on demand services, Instructional Television (ITV) and prime-time PBS programs
to explain, motivate, reinforce and reach the different learning
styles of students as they familiarize themselves with new curriculum
concepts.
During the Institute, attendees observe and participate in lessons
that illustrate, step-by-step, how to teach with video and Web resources
using introductory, learning and culminating activities, as well
as community action plans for real-world applications.
