Sesame Street Turns 40

Sesame Street celebrates its 40th birthday on November 10, 2009 -- the exact day the series debuted on television four decades ago. This season, you and your kids will enjoy everything you love about the show and more, including a new nature curriculum and a visit from Michelle Obama!

Tune in on Tuesday, November 10 at 7am on OPB HD and 9am on OPB when the new season begins with an appearance by first lady Michelle Obama. She talks about the many benefits of planting a garden and healthy eating as part of Sesame Street’s ongoing "Healthy Habits for Life" initiative.

Also new this season:

"My World is Green & Growing" -- Original songs, storylines and animations such as "Murray Had a Little Lamb," "Word on the Street," and "Elmo's World" will  increase positive attitudes towards nature, deepen children’s knowledge about the natural world and encourage behavior that shows respect and care for the environment. 

"Abby's Flying Fairy School" -- Beloved fairy-in-training Abby Cadabby has been transformed into CGI animation for this special segment following Abby and her friends as they learn to work together to solve problems.

Lots of Celebrities -- Everyone from NBA MVP Kobe Bryant to actors Greg Kinnear, Eva Longoria, Sarah Jessical Parker and Rick Gervais to Today Show co-host Meredith Viera and many others drop by Sesame Street to laugh and learn.

Just in Time for Flu Season: "Getting a Shot: You Can Do It!" from Sid the Science Kid

Everyone's favorite preschool scientist, Sid, is hearing a lot of talk this fall about how to stay healthy.

In the new special episode "Getting a Shot: You Can Do It!", Sid asks lots of questions about what can make a person sick and learns the basic science behind germs, viruses and vaccines.

It's vaccination day at Sid’s school, and Sid and his friends are a little apprehensive about getting a shot.  Thankfully, a very special nurse will be giving the kids their vaccination-- Sid’s Grandma!  Throughout this special episode, Grandma, Teacher Susie, Mom and Dad all do their part to make vaccination day a fun learning experience filled with music, games and lots of laughs.

Monkey Around the Christmas Tree with Curious George!

Go on a holiday adventure with Curious George as he prepares for Christmas Day in "A Very Monkey Christmas," a charming new program premiering on Wednesday, November 25 at 5am on OPB HD and 7am on OPB.

In Curious George's first-ever holiday special, George and The Man with the Yellow Hat encounter a dilemma -- neither can figure out what to give the other for a present!

George and The Man with the Yellow Hat follow each other around town and enlist the help of some of the series' most beloved characters, hoping to discover a clue as to what the other would like to find under the tree.

The suspense builds as Christmas approaches -- and in the end their predicament is resolved, revealing the true spirit of the holidays and highlighting the importance of spending time with those you love all year long.
