The 2014 Portland Jazz Festival beckons, but, as you consider the dizzying array of scheduled gigs, you might find yourself overwhelmed by the embarrassment of riches.  Fear not, because KMHD Jazz Radio has your back with this handy “rough guide” to the festival.  Think of this guide as your jazz compass for finding those events that are off the beaten path, free or both.  In all likelihood, you know that Ahmad Jamal is playing Portland for the first time in over two decades (and, of course, this show is sold out).  The heavy hitters have been duly noted but let’s talk about those artists flying under the radar.
