David Ackerman


David Ackerman, the jazz program director for Cornell University in the 1960s, recorded the concert that the Charles Mingus Sextet played at Cornell.  Alto saxophonist Eric Dolphy and trumpeter Johnny Coles passed away almost immediately afterwards, making this a historically significant concert. With Ackerman in possession of these tapes and directed by Mingus’ telegram, they remained in the vaults for nearly 50 years.
