The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society — known for actively battling whalers — says it's joining the fight to save sea lions on the Columbia River.

The group says it will help deliver letters to the Oregon governor's office Thursday afternoon, calling for an end to the killing of sea lions that have been eating salmon at the Bonneville Dam.

The Friday Harbor, Wash., based society says officials should address other issues that threaten salmon, such as dams and overfishing.

Two Bonneville sea lions were captured and killed last month by lethal injection.

The Humane Society of the United States is suing to permanently end the sea lion killings.
