With rumors racing through hallways and social media sites, at least three Oregon districts canceled classes Friday, and authorities said two students were arrested in threats at a school in Stayton.
The Salem Statesman Journal reported the Stayton police arrested a 16-year-old boy on charges of disorderly conduct and menacing, and a 14-year-old girl was accused of initiating a false report and released to a parent. Schools in the North Santiam district remained open.
The Banks School District in Washington County said its schools would be closed Friday because of "an alleged threat of violence."
The Lincoln County district along the coast closed out of concern over security, absences and bad weather.
The Jefferson County district in Central Oregon said the barrage of rumors would make schooling difficult.
