Supporters of the Columbia River Crossing bridge are not giving up yet.
They say they’ve got a new plan to replace the aging I-5 bridge between Portland and Vancouver.
The plan includes light rail. And it would not require the approval of the Washington Legislature.
Lawmakers in Olympia decided in June that they would not match Oregon’s proposed $450 million share of the project.
Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber and Washington Governor Jay Inslee responded by shutting down the project.
The Columbian newspaper reports that supporters are urging both governors to use Oregon’s money and some federal dollars to build a new bridge. It would be connected to an upgraded interchange at Washington State Highway 14.
