A bottle bomb discovered by a Bend Garbage and Recycling worker went off in his hand causing a minor injury.

Police say the worker found what looked like a discarded water bottle Thursday afternoon. He picked it up to recycle it, and it popped when he took off the cap. The injury did not require medical treatment.

KTVZ reports that the Oregon State Police bomb squad from Salem was called to dispose of two other similar bottles found nearby. Sgt. Dan Ritchie says it looks like they were tossed near an intersection and not at a target.

Bottle bombs are made with common household chemicals that expand when mixed or exposed to air.
