The Canby Ferry is scheduled to be back in service Friday. It has been out of service for major maintenance since January.
The ferry will once again cross the Willamette River between Canby and Wilsonville. It had repairs and retrofitting work done over the past six months in Portland.
Ellen Rogalin is with Clackamas County. She says federal money helped fund the cost of repairs.
“We started pursuing money to do that and ended up getting a large grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help fund the kind of retrofitting that we needed,” she said.
Rogalin says the ferry’s recent renovations will reduce electricity usage, eliminate the potential of an oil spill, and ensure safety. She says the ferry transports about 80,000 vehicles a year.
The ferry coasts $4 for vehicles, and $2 for pedestrians.
The Canby Ferry has been operating for 99 years.
