Fences at Chapman and Lownsdale squares were taken down this morning. The parks have been vacant since November 13th when Occupy Portland campers were evacuated.

Restoration work on the turf and grassy areas is now complete.

Mark Ross with the Portland Parks and Recreation says, “We’re hopeful that we have moved beyond anything regarding camping and that people can practice free speech in other forms. Parks are open and ready for the 100 percent to enjoy them as they are designed to be used.”

Ross says the city is working with park rangers to make sure that all park rules are enforced.

The women’s restrooms at the south end of Chapman Square are open and functioning. The men’s room at Lownsdale is scheduled to open June 1st.
