The Coast Guard and Washington Department of Ecology worked Wednesday to patch a vessel that was leaking diesel fuel in the Columbia River near Longview, Washington.

The 100-foot former fishing vessel Tiffany, moored on the south side of Lord Island about 4 miles downriver from Longview, was leaking diesel from cracks in a fuel tank in its port bow.

Washington’s Department of Ecology began to investigate after getting reports of a half-mile-long sheen reported on the Oregon side of the Columbia River.

Work continues today to figure out the best way to get the remaining fuel out of the vessel with the least impact on the river.

The Coast Guard is attempting to reach the vessel’s owner.
