A Cottage Grove woman admitted hiding the death of a man in her care, secretly burying his body and collecting his Social Security benefits for 15 years.

Carel June Cody pleaded guilty Monday in federal court in Eugene to fraud.

The Register-Guard reports the 47-year-old faces about four years in prison when she is sentenced in July. A plea deal also requires her to pay $203,000 in restitution and a $5,000 fine.

No charges have been filed in the death of John Arnold who was in his mid-70s when he died in 1996. Cody forged his name to collect Social Security benefits that were deposited in his bank account.

Cody’s husband, Ernest “Bud” Cook, also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge in the case.
