Students from Crestline Elementary resumed classes Thursday. After a fire devastated the Vancouver school last week, students have been dispersed by grade level to other schools in the area.
A ton of planning, a lot of shuffling and a little bit of condensing. That's how Mill Plain Elementary prepared to bring in four new classes of kindergarteners.
Mill Plain principal Karen Fox says the transition went off without a hitch, thanks to help from the Evergreen School District and the community as a whole.
Crestline students moved with their classmates and teachers.
“We moved half of our kindergarten to a different wing so that they could all be here together. And then have two of our kindergarten classes so that they can connect with Mill Plain as well.”
But there’s a lot for the kids to learn about their new temporary school. Teacher Tania Goudy took her class around campus. They had to relearn everything from:
What toys are on the playground to where the bathrooms are.
Goudy says the kids are excited but still trying to decompress and get adjusted.
