Hundreds of lightning strikes have been reported in Oregon Friday, primarily in the southwest and central parts of the state.
Fire crews have been sent out to try and snuff out some of the blazes that resulted from the strikes, before they grow in the heat of the day.
Rod Nichols with the Oregon Department of Forestry says, “In Douglas County area, firefighting resources were sent out rapidly as the fires were detected, but we have a number of fires that haven’t been staffed yet just because there were so many.”
Nichols says recent reports indicate that there are about 54 new fires in Douglas County. Some new fires have been reported in the Klamath Basin, too.
