At the end of January, the truck maker said it would cut 1,300 staff. Now it says about 600 will lose their jobs — 230 in Portland and 340 in North Carolina.

In a statement, company spokesman David Giroux said the number of orders on Daimler’s books enabled it to reduce the size of the cuts.
