Deschutes County’s top legal official is criticizing the state’s decision to pay $22 million to resolve a federal lawsuit.
According to KTVZ, District Attorney Patrick Flaherty dismissed the 2011 lawsuit as “meritless” this week.
Three former deputy district attorneys filed the lawsuit after they were fired, claiming they were targeted after trying to form a union.
Flaherty says if he had his way, he would have gone to trial against the plaintiffs and won.
He also says he made his objections known to the state attorney general’s office before the settlement.
