Eugene voters will be asked in May to approve fees on homes and businesses to help pay for the library and other city services.

The fees could be $120 a year on homes and $360 a year on businesses.

The Register-Guard reports the council dropped a proposal for a property tax levy as a way to raise revenue.

The council is trying to fill a $6 million gap in the budget that begins July 1.
