Fire crews are making progress containing the Buckskin wildfire in Southwest Oregon. The fire has been burning for more than a week near Cave Junction and O'Brien.

The 4,843-acre Buckskin Fire is now 30 percent contained. Much of the eastern flank of the blaze is now under control.

"The eastern perimeter area has moved into in a 'mop up phase' where we're actually working around 300 feet inside the burned out containment line to find and smoldering spots," said Bill Queen, a public information officer with the Buckskin Fire Indent Command Team. "It's really cooled down well."

About 540 fire fighters are working to contain the western side of the Buckskin Fire. The fire was caused by a lightning strike on June 11.
