Family, Firefighters, Friends Remember Percin For Love Of Outdoors

Dozens of area firefighters joined family members and friends Saturday to remember one of the firefighters killed in Arizona two weeks ago.

At 24, John Percin Jr. was one of the youngest members of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew. He’d grown up in West Linn, and moved to Prescott, Arizona in 2010.

Companies representing both structural and wild land firefighters lined the corridor as Percin’s parents, who still live in West Linn, were ushered in.

Fire chaplain Steve Brodehl remembered the young man who had shown enormous physical and mental strength in his work, and such love for wild places of the West.

Brodehl said, “You said the word “outdoors”, he was on it. Anything you could touch that had dirt on it was for him.”

Pam Ensley, who chairs the Northwest Wildfire Coordinating Group, and herself the mother of a hotshot firefighter, offered prayers and support, and noted the wildfire season is just beginning.
