The shiny new Football Performance Center at the University of Oregon officially opens for local media tours today.
The New York Times and Sports Illustrated already got a sneak peek inside the new facility. It was bankrolled by U of O booster and Nike founder Phil Knight.
A spokesman for U of O tells the Register Guard that the university was seeking “national recognition” for the project.
University officials worried that if the story had already broken locally, there would be less national interest.
Sports Illustrated got the first access, and ran a six-page photo spread of the new center.
