Downtown shoppers in Portland this weekend are in for a holiday treat: free parking courtesy of local businesses.

Sandra McDonough of the Portland Business Alliance says stores have already offered numerous incentives to lure shoppers downtown, “What we’re doing this weekend, though, is extraordinary.”

The Portland Business Alliance is behind an effort to provide 1,000 free parking spaces this weekend. It’s due, in part, to a power outage earlier this week that shut down several businesses for two full days.

The free parking spots are in SmartPark garages. Shoppers can pick up vouchers at the Pendleton store or the Pioneer Place Information Booth.
