Oregonians continue to spend holiday time traveling within the region, according to a survey conducted by Triple A.
$4 a gallon gas and other economic pressures haven't dampened peoples' need to get away for the weekend. Triple A says car trips are the most common reported method for getting around again this year. Eleven percent of people living in Oregon, Washington, and three other western states say they plan to be on the road over the holiday weekend.
AAA's Marie Dodds says surveyors noticed one interesting change in the traveller profile this year.
"The share of expected holiday travelers in homes where the income is less than $50,000 has dropped five percent. But when you look at household incomes over $100,000, that's a pretty big jump there in travelers, up 6%," says Dodds.
Dodds says in the Pacific region states, almost ten percent of holiday travelers will fly to their vacations. That's down about five percent from last year.
