Head of Ferrari: "I don't believe in electric cars."

Thanks to OPB’s Ifanyi Bell for flagging this tidbit. Apparently, Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo doesn’t believe in electric cars. As he told Engadget at the Ferrari World Design Contest:

“You will never see a Ferarri electric because I don’t believe in electric cars. I don’t believe it can represent an important step forward for pollution or CO2 or the environment. But we are working very hard on hybrid Ferrari. This should be the future.”

Here’s the video (spotlight on 4:06-4:45).

As I’ve noted, there are other eco-friendly versions of luxury cars in the works – including the $600,000 plug-in hybrid Porsche and all-electric Mercedes. But critics say these models won’t have very much impact on the environment because so few people can afford to drive them.
