Commissioners at the Port of Longview have unanimously voted to fire their chief executive officer.

Geir-Eilif Kalhagen’s termination became effective immediately Tuesday. But a statement from the port says it was "without cause" — meaning Kalhagen didn’t do anything wrong.

Instead, the board of commissioners says the termination is based on a differing vision of growth and development. It declined requests for more detail.

The termination was a sudden end for Kalhagen, especially considering two of the three commissioners are new. Longview businessman Jeff Wilson joined in November and Doug Averett was appointed in August.

Chief operating officer Norm Krehbiel will run operations during the search for Kalhagen’s replacement.

The port is in the middle of negotiations to attract an oil terminal and propane dock.

Last year, commissioners rejected a different $300 million propane export terminal.
