Two police officers fired their guns at a man who appeared to be pointing a pistol at them, but no one was hit and the man surrendered early Wednesday in Hillsboro.

Police say officers had responded Tuesday night to an apartment where a man was threatening to harm himself. A woman in the apartment safely left the apartment before officers arrived.

Officers surrounded the apartment and were attempting to negotiate with the man when he appeared in a breezeway and appeared to point a pistol at the officers who fired.

The man remained in the apartment but came out before 1 a.m. and was booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of menacing, resisting arrest and interfering with police.

The pistol was a pellet gun.
