Fourth of July fireworks may be fun for the kids, but the family pets often have a harder time.

"We get an awful lot of lost pets," says Tanya Roberts, with Oregon Humane Society's training and behavior department. "In fact, the county facilities that receive in strays say it's the biggest day or weekend of the year."
Roberts says you can keep your pets safe by keeping them inside and making sure they wear collars with tags -- even after the Fourth. Some people keep setting off fireworks for several days.
If your animal is scared by loud noises, Roberts says many pet stores sell calming products, or a veterinarian can write a prescription.
