The University of Washington says its head football coach is leaving Seattle to run the football program at the University of Southern California.
Steve Sarkisian has coached the Huskies for the last five seasons. Sarkisian had a winning record in all but his first season at UW.
A statement from the Washington athletics department says Sarkisian is leaving immediately. It says a search for a replacement is starting right away.
There’s no immediate word on who would act as head coach, if Washington were invited to a bowl game later this month. The Huskies are eligible for one.
Sarkisian has history with USC. He had two stints with the Trojans for a total of seven years. But this will be his first time as USC head coach.
