Portland’s westbound Interstate 84 will be closed this weekend between Interstates 205 and I-5. Construction crews will be repaving the road.
The freeway, also known as “the Banfield” closes at 10 p.m. Friday, July 19. I-84 westbound will re-open by 5 a.m. Monday, July 22.
Don Hamilton is a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Transportation. He says I-84 westbound needs repaving.
“This is a stretch of road that’s going to need upgrade because of the amount of use it gets, because it’s starting to develop patches that are needed and pot holes. We’re trying to make this a smoother and safer road because the kind of use it gets throughout the metropolitan area,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton suggests motorists choose alternative routes to get around the city.
