Incumbents Lead In Statewide Democratic Primaries

Governor John Kitzhaber and Senator Jeff Merkeley were among the incumbents who led in early election results on Tuesday.

Merkley received 92 percent of early votes in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, against two challengers.

Monica Wehby beat Jason Conger in the Republican primary for the Senate seat. Wehby had 52 percent of votes to Conger’s 35 percent at 11 p.m. Tuesday, with not all votes counted.

Kitzhaber received 88 percent of early votes in the Democratic primary for governor, against one challenger.

In the Republican gubernatorial primary, Dennis Richardson had 64 percent of early votes, giving him the lead against five other candidates.
