Governor John Kitzhaber talked about the importance of collaborating with neighboring states Thursday, in a speech about the economy.
The Governor says an exchange created by California, Washington, and Oregon last year will help those states become less reliant on federal funding.
The West Coast Infrastructure Exchange is intended to co-ordinate public and private investments in infrastructure.
“If we do this right, we can become less dependent on the vagaries of infrastructure funding from Washington D.C., and begin to attract outside capitol and private investors who see the opportunity and potential profit in this new emerging sector," Kitzhaber says.
The governor spoke at an event hosted by the Portland Business Journal. The exchange is funded by a $250,000 grant from the Rockefeller Foundation.
