A state agency will assist Klamath County in the transition of the county’s mental health care services to a nonprofit. The Klamath Youth Development Center is the new mental health care provider.

The Oregon Health Authority certified the Klamath Youth Development Center as the new mental health provider in a contract that took effective this month.

Rebeka Gipson-King is with the Oregon Health Authority. She said state and local agencies are working together.

“We have staff down there who are headed to help out with that transition,” Gipson-King said. “We want to make sure that the clients down in Klamath Falls continue to have the services they need. So the staff are going to be on the ground to help smooth out that transition process.”

Gipson-King says the Oregon Health Authority received a letter from the county saying it is going to end services earlier than the anticipated date of Aug. 1.

The county is transferring patients over to the Klamath Youth Development Center.
