Nine Oregon counties have filed a lawsuit opposing the state's 2015 paid sick leave law.

The complaint alleges that the law conflicts with part of the Oregon Constitution that says the state can't require local governments to implement new programs without reimbursement.

Linn County is leading the suit.

"We believe it is an unfunded mandate and that we are not required to participate," said Roger Nyquist, Linn County commission chairman. "This is our asking a judge to concur with that analysis."

Nyqvist said the paid sick leave law would cost his county 42,000 dollars per year.
