PENDLETON — A man lost control of an unloaded log truck on Highway 204 near Tollgate Friday morning and died after the vehicle crashed.
Shane Gordon Cosgriff, 51, from Montana, was the driver. Oregon State Police said Cosgriff’s death is an open investigation, and that driving speed may be a factor in the 7 a.m. crash.
Cosgriff was pronounced dead at the scene, and he was not wearing a seatbelt. Cosgriff drove for BL Lothrop Ranch, based in Lostine.
He lost control coming around a left curve near mile post 18. The truck drove off the highway and rolled once.
This was one of three fatal crashes in Oregon on Friday. One occurred north of Florence, and the other happened north of Yamhill.
“Today has been somewhat of a deadly in Oregon with three crashes that occurred,” said OSP Lt. Gregg Hastins, public information officer. “This is a reminder … to do everything we can to be watching our speed, be aware of how we are driving and make sure we have a sober driver behind the wheel.”
