After responding to a flurry of calls about lost mushroom pickers, the Lane County sheriff’s office has issued a reminder saying people should bring basic survival gear in forests.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports that the sheriff’s office responded to several calls about missing mushroom pickers. Eventually all of them were found, but cold and wet.

Deputies responded to calls in the Walton area, near Sutton Lake and at Siltcoos Trail.

Sheriff’s officials say people who plan an outing in the woods should to carry basic survival gear including water, a compass, a map of the area, food, rain gear and warm clothes. They say people should fully charge their cell phones prior to a trip and make it known where they will be and when they plan to return.
