A Southwest Washington man appears to have fallen to his death after taking scenic pictures from a bridge in Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Cowlitz County Sheriff’s deputies found Lance Chandler, 52, of Toutle, Wash., beneath a high Spirit Lake Memorial Highway bridge. Their investigation started after a forest service employee reported that a Nissan Murano, registered in the name of Chandler’s wife, had been abandoned at the side of the road for several days. When police visited the car, they found Chandler’s cell phone, coat and an empty camera case, along with indications that someone had fallen. Chandler’s camera and his body were both found below the bridge.

The camera was badly damaged, but its memory card’s last picture was taken from the point where it appears that Chandler fell, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
