Police in the Portland suburb of Hillsboro have identified a 30-year-old man they say fired at officers and was then fatally shot by police during a traffic stop.
Lt. Michael Rouches identified the man Monday as Victor Torres-Elizondo, who most recently lived in Woodburn and Forest Grove.
Police say a man in the front passenger seat pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired at an officer late Friday after being asked to step out of a Honda Accord. The officer’s partner returned fire, striking the man, who was pronounced dead at a Portland hospital.
The officers were not hurt and have not yet been identified.
A police dog had alerted officers during the traffic stop that drugs might be in the car. Police have yet to say whether any drugs were found.
The three other people in the Accord were detained for questioning and released Saturday.
