Matsutake mushroom season gets underway Tuesday in several national forests: the Willamette, UmpquaDeschutes and Fremont-Winema National Forests.

Permits cost $200 for the season or $8 per day with a minimum three-day purchase.

Due to fires, mushroom pickers must still follow public use restrictions in effect in the Deschutes and Fremont-Winema National Forests.

The matsutake season runs until November 2.
