Multnomah County Library has launched a new service providing online streaming. Anyone with a library card can access over 125,000 music albums, movies, and television shows.
“Hoopla” is the platform for the streaming media. New releases of major labels and publishers are all available to library cardholders for free and on demand.
Hoopla may be accessed with a browser or smartphone.
Shaun Cunningham is with the Multnomah County Library. He says that within the first day, 2,000 people signed up for the service.
“Our patrons are asking for more digital content, and so we’re working hard to be responsive to those needs and we’re providing more digital content for them every year including audio books, e-books, and now streaming video and music content,” says Cunningham.
Cunningham says the library will continue to offer physical DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks.
The Multnomah County library joins nearly 50 other library systems offering Hoopla. Those include the Seattle Public Library and Los Angeles Public Library.
