Oregon police officers took dozens of drunk drivers off of Oregon roads New Year’s Eve.
Police spokesman Gregg Hastings says there were 39 driving under the influence arrests between midnight and 6 A.M. That’s close to last year’s number for a similar period.
“We did actually have more arrests last year between midnight and six o’clock in the morning than we did this year – just by a little number,” Hastings said. “But the total number for the holiday period this year is significantly higher than it was last year.”
Troopers reported 73 arrests this year, going back to last Friday night. That’s a big jump from a year ago, when police arrested 53 for driving under the influence.
The Portland area had the most arrests by far, with 10. Eight of those arrests were after midnight Monday night.
