Newberg’s city manager resigned from his job this week, after revelations about his affair with a city employee.

The Yamhill News-Register reports that Dan Danicic resigned at the request of the Newberg City Council.

According to city officials, Danicic had an affair with an employee and tried to cover it up.

The issue came to a head after the employee was fired despite positive evaluations.

She hired a lawyer, and asked for a financial settlement, citing illegal sex discrimination.

In a letter, her lawyer alleged that she had been fired because Danicic wanted to keep their affair under wraps.

The city has to pay Danicic a severance payment of roughly $72,000, according to his employment contract.
