The Vancouver-based health-care system, PeaceHealth, is planning to cut about 500 jobs, according to The Columbian newspaper.

PeaceHealth is struggling to cut its budget by about $130 million. That’s after Kaiser Permanente cancelled a contract to provide emergency and obstetric care in Clark County.

PeaceHealth operates in three states. But about 70 percent of the layoffs are expected to come from the company’s Columbia Network at the Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver and at the St. John Medical Center in Longview.

The Register-Guard reports that about 55 jobs will be lost in the Lane County area.
