When Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was elected in 2005, not only was he seen as a rising star in the Democratic party, but he also was L.A.’s first Latino mayor in more than a century. As Villaraigosa prepares to leave office, no Latino successor is ready to take over.
